Full disclosure: I sold my V-Strom in 2014. I swapped between two different tires, the Shinko 705, which is hard to beat based entirely on price. It wasn't my favorite tire, but when I can get a set for $150, or whatever it used to cost, it made them hard to pass up. My favorite tire was the Metzeler Tourance.

Suzuki's own PR says "V-STROM 800DE's engine is ideal for the back roads. It demonstrates tenacious staying power at extremely low speeds, which makes for easy control on gravel and hard dirt roads.". This thing is made for the places that you ride adventure bikes for enjoyment, not autobahn bragging rights.
So let's end on a positive. Although the Suzuki's fuelling is a little fluffy under 3000rpm and it's not so happy cruising at stupidly high speeds, it is well balanced, comfortable, practical and capable. It's also, given the extras, a hell of a bargain. Suzuki's V-Strom never hit the big time but it's been a solid seller, loved by owners.
